I went to Houston last weekend to attend the opening of “Nowhere near here” exhibition at Fotofest. Thank you Michelle and Toby to include me in the show, and thank you Jennifer, Annie, Bevin and all the staff at Fotofest and HCP to accommodate me. The show looked great. Since I have never seen this work printed and installed, I was a bit worried before arriving to the venue. I ordered the print job at Hare and Hound Press at San Antonio and I just have to say that they did much better job than I could do myself. Thank you Gary at Hare and Hound Press!

Many people came to the opening and I had incredible conversations with other artists and the visitors. I also got to hang out with David and Krista who I was with at Roswell residency and Mari Omori who is my dear Japanese artist friend. I miss Texas art scene a lot. Houston always give me art fix.

Time flies.

I was in Japan, in St. Louis, and in San Antonio, and now I am in Albion Michigan. A lot of moving and that will continue after December, but we got some time to settle. Jimmy and I are accepted as visiting artists at Albion College for 2009 fall semester. We got here about 3 weeks ago, moved, set up studios and we are good to go.

We are also in “World biggest Art Prize” in Grand Rapid, Michigan called “ArtPrize”. Whole city of Grand Rapids are now turned into a huge art museum. All venues opened yesterday (9/23) and we have met so many new artists + some artists we have already known for years.

My piece is installed on south side window of Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM). It is the same, but different version of piece which I did in Artpace San Antoino.

GRAM window installation

The piece will be up till October 10th. If you are happen to be in Grand Rapids in very strange coincidence, please come check it out.

I left Roswell on May 10th for San Antonio Texas to install my new work, One Afternoon, at Artpace San Antonio for WindowWork exhibition. Artpace has 3 windows around 71″ x 76″ and two smaller windows on both end, which are facing toward north main street. I decided to use 3 windows in the middle for window film installation.

Installing "one afternoon"

The material was much easier to work than I imagined. The film I used was frosted window films which were common for window displays. In order to install, you have to peel the backing from the film to expose the sticky side, spray soapy water both on films and window, put the film on the window, move around the film to position on the window and squeeze water with squeegee.

"One Afternoon" installed on windows

I am very happy with the result. If you are interested in, please come by to Artpace. It will be up until September 20th.

The show has just came down three days ago, but here is the report from the exhibition What isn’t it at Texas State University,

It was a three person show with Minako Inaoka, Japanese artist from San Fransico, Alyson Fox from Austin Texas and myself, and it had a theme through the entire show which was bluring the line between reality and fiction. The works from three artists were all mixed in the space, and it was a very nice installations of works.

I also had a chance to catch up old friends from UTSA, George Zupp and Derrick Durham.

Chicken George and Derrick Durham

Also George Krause stopped by. It was very nice catching up with everyone. Thank you, Texas State, for good time.
